The Ladies Opening of Helensburgh Bowling Club Green’s, took place on Wednesday 19th April 2017. Club Lady Captain,
Irene Wallace, welcomed members and guests, including Club President Mrs Patricia McCallan Mrs Ginty Struth District
Secretary of the WoSWBA, Mrs Jean Anderson District |Secretary from of the DWBA, and Mrs Veronica Butler Hoskin Secretary of the GWBA and representatives from 12 kindred clubs within, and outwith, the area, to the Opening day.
Ladies Captain Irene welcomed new members to the club and presented them with a club lapel badge.
Irene then presented the 2016 Club Champion Mrs Wilma Hannah with her championship medal and went on to present winners medals to the ladies who had won the GWBA “A” League in 2016, Mrs Susan Claisse, Mrs Pat Donald, Mrs Margaret Hogg,Mrs Annette Christie and Mrs Liz Fraser (Skip).Winners. Medals were also presented to the winners of the GWBA Senior League, Mrs Rona Jay, Miss Veronica Bell BEM, Mrs Wilma Reid, Mrs Marion McClenaghan and Mrs Patricia McCallan (Skip)
The Club President Patrica McCallan invited the Lady Captain to Open the Greens.
Irene delivered the first jack and two bowls, one on each hand before declaring the greens open for 2017 and wishing the ladies a successful and enjoyable year in 2017. President Pat then presented Irene with the ceremonial Silver Jack and a bouquet of flowers for Opening the greens.
The ladies and guests played enjoyed an eight end game and retired to the clubhouse to enjoy a meal prepared by the ladies
of the club.
The winners of the 8 end game were Barbara Robertson (Helensburgh BC), Margaret Hogg ( Helensburgh BC) Margaret Docherty( Barremman BC) and Margaret Weir Skip ( Vale of Leven BC) 14shots Up, the Runners Up on 7 shots up were Pat Donald ( Helensburgh BC) Margaret Grant ( Helensburgh BC) Nicky King (Garelochhead BC) and Margaret Shields Skip ( Dumbarton BC). Both teams were presented with their prizes by the Lady Captain Irene who also presented the Trophy and Prizes to the Winner Mrs Patricia McCallan and the Runner Up Mrs Joy Farrow in the Ladies carpet Bowls competition played throughout the winter.
The representatives of the Associations, all conveyed their good wishes to the Club and members for the 2017 season.
The Ladies Captain Irene Wallace, in bringing an enjoyable day to an end, thanked, the guests and members for attending, for providing Raffle prizes, the ladies for the excellent meal, the club gents for serving and clearing up and wished all a safe
