Golden Charter – James Auld Funeral Directors – Open Mixed Fours Competition Sunday 8th October 2017
Rinks of Lady and Gents bowlers from the within the Gareloch area, and out with the area including Clydebank and Alexandria , gathered at Helensburgh Bowling Club to play in the delayed popular Open Mixed Rink Competition on Sunday 8th October commencing at 10.00am, the weather was good at the start but the rain started during the latter stages of the day, however the players responded to the conditions accordingly, The competition is very generously sponsored by, James Auld Funeral Directors.
After the section games which were played over 6 ends the following rinks qualified to play each other in the Final finals with the results as shown:
In the Blue Section, Jess McConnell, Lynn Dobroejivic, Alasdair Cameron and Gordon Stephen MBE(Skip) from Garelochhead & Helensburgh BC qualified with 8 points from a possible 10.
From the Red Section, Patricia McCallan, Marion McClenaghan, Robert Begg and Alan Air Skip all Helensburgh BC qualified with a total of 9 points from a possible 10.
In the Yellow Section, Jannette McKay, George Birss, Vick Smyth and Veronica Butler Hoskin ( Skip) from Barremman BC qualified with the maximum 10 points.
In the Green Section, Carol Laird, Sandra Watt, Vick Smyth and Tom McCabe (Skip), From Clydebank BC qualified with 8 points from a possible 10
In the first Semi Final, the Alan Air rink despite losing 7 shots over the first two ends, scored 2, 3,3,2 shots in successive ends to reach the final winning by 10 shots tom 7.
In the second semi final the Clydebank BC four skip by Tom McCabe defeated the Barremman BC four skipped by Veronica Butler Hoskin
In the Final between the Alan Air (Helensburgh) four and the Tom McCabe (Clydebank) rink the Alan Air four took the lead in the first end scoring 2 shots before Tom McCabe and his rink tied the game by scoring 2 at second end. Alan Air and his rink then scored 3 shots to again lead by 5 shots to 2 after three ends. The Tom McCabe rink were not finished yet as they scored 3 shots over the next two ends to again tie the game at 5 shots all. In the final end the Alan Air rink rallied to score two shots and win the trophy by 7 shots to 5
After the final club President Patricia McCallan sincerely thanked James Auld Funeral Directors for again sponsoring the event, and asked Jim to present the prizes. Jim Auld responded that he was again happy to sponsor this event and then presented the prizes to the losing semi-finalist and runners up and the Trophy and prizes to the winners, Patricia McCallan, Marion Mc Clenaghan, Robert Begg and Alan Air (Skip). Alan thanked the caterers for providing the excellent meals and the organiser Alan Howie and his team for all their work work.
The President congratulated the players on an excellent day of bowling. thanked everyone in the club involved in organising the event for an excellent day
