Helensburgh BC – Open Gents Pairs Sponsored by Helensburgh Toyota
Helensburgh Bowling Club’s popular Toyota Gents Open Pairs competition was held at the club over the week of 25th June.
Sponsored by Helensburgh Toyota, the contest is run on a knockout basis and attracted entries from the Burgh and elsewhere.
The early rounds were played on Tuesday and Wednesday – all over 12 ends with the Semi-finals and Finals were played on the Friday evening.
In the Semi-finals and in the other Lee Walters Barremman BC and Andrew Sneddon Helensburgh BC defeated Bob Backer and Alan Godfrey of Cove and Kilcreggan BC.
In the final during which some excellent bowls were played the pair of Craig and Charles won 5 out of the first 6 ends to lead 10-2.
Lee and Andrew then began to fight back, scoring a 5 at the 8th and 11th ends making the score 14-12 in their favour going into the last end.
Craig and Charles scored a 2 to make it peels at 14 forcing an extra end to be played, Lee and Andrew won the end by one shot to win the competition.
After the game Gary Mulvaney, on behalf of Helensburgh Toyota, presented the losing semi-finalists the runners up and the winners with their prizes.
Club President Roger Jones thanked Helensburgh Toyota for sponsoring the competition all the players for taking part and Allan Howie for organising the competition.

Ladies Aitchison Triples – Tuesday 22nd May 2018
Another busy week of competitive bowling at the club, both the Ladies took to the greens to play in the Aitchison Triples competition.
The Ladies played out their Aitchison Trophy Tuesday 22nd May in a Triples format in one of the best days of weather to date. The Competition was played on a round robin basis each team playing each over 5 ends in a total of 5 games for each team. The competition ran to the final game before a winner was certain and the result was decided with the Runners up being Lesley Healy, Jenifer Jones and Jill Dacombe( Skip) with the clear winners of the trophy, having lost only one game by the odd shot finished on 8 points Irene Crawford, Helen Lawrie and Liz Fraser (Skip)

Dorothy & John Bell , Mixed Triples 23rd, 24th, and 26th April 2018
Competitive Bowling started at the club last week with the Mixed Triples competition for the Dorothy and John Bell Mixed Triples Trophy. Play got under way on Monday 23rd April and was run in two sections with each team playing each other over a series of 6 end games. The highest up and Triple in each section would qualify for the final of the competition
After the completion of the Section games the clear winners in the Red Section were Lesley Healy, T. Bird and George Tait. In the Blue Section the Winners were Bob Gray, Mrs Susan Claisse and Mrs Liz Fraser.
The Final played on Thursday over 9 ends paired the successful Semi Finalists, Bob Gray, Mrs Susan Claissie and Mrs Liz Fraser against Lesley Healy, T. Bird and George Tait.
In a close final the triple of Bob Gray, Mrs Susan Claissie and Mrs Liz Fraser (Skip) ended up winning the trophy.
